Beautiful first day of the first edition of the Carnival Trophy Race organized by the RCN Gran Canaria for the Laser class, where the committe was able to complete two races.
The first race began with the wind from 230º and about seven knots. There was a groundswell of NE that complicated seriously the navigation.
After a general recall, the committee decided to hoist black flag, and on the second occasion was the Turkish Cagla Donertas who took the opportunity to go first for pin and control the first upwind and the first downwind. In the second upwind his pursuers Joel Rodriguez and Martina Reino attacked the lead from the left side, relegating Cagla to third place, finishing in that order.
The second race was suspected more complicated, because the wind had dropped slightly in intensity, it was about 6 knots, even below the limit. The wind was more unstable and shifty.
This race was dominated by Joel Rodriguez from start to the finish, showing a good sailing. Second finish his brother Nahuel Rodriguez and Martina finished third just ahead of Danish Anne-Marie Rindom.
For tomorrow is expected to attend the three sailors from Germany, three sailors from Holland and the rest of the Norwegian team that arrived on Saturday afternoon at Gran Canaria, in addition to laser standard sailor Joaquin Blanco.
